Welcome to the new Music Notes for 2018 - 2019!  We have some exciting things happening in music class at LSES!

Our kindergartners have learned the 4 ways to use their voices.  They've learned about steady beat and rhythm.  Now they have begun to read and perform quarter notes and paired eighth notes.  Ask your student about Miss White!

Our first graders have been reading and performing quarter notes, paired eighth notes and quarter rests.  They have become quite proficient in playing rhythm instruments such as drums, maracas, and rhythm sticks while reading these rhythms.

Our second grade classes have been reading and performing rhythms with quarter, paired eighth and half notes as well as quarter rests.  More recently they are learning to use Italian terms to describe the speed of the beat such as:  tempo, adagio and allegro.

Our third graders have learned how to read and perform whole notes and dotted half notes in addition to notes they have learned previously.  They are beginning to understand meter and time signatures.  You might ask your student to tell you what the numbers in the time signature represent.

Our fourth grade classes began the year learning a song from the American Revolution titled, "Soldier! Soldier!"  They enjoy singing it every chance we get.  They are becoming more and more successful in performing all the music notation in our standards.

Our fifth grade classes are preparing for their next level experience as band or chorus members in middle school.  They have also had an opportunity to create and write their own music compositions.  I would love to be able to incorporate their creations in a concert here sometime!

Parents, you are invited to come share music with us any day.  We love visitors in our classroom.  We are excited to share what we are learning with everyone!
